Cheyenne Jackson Going to be on Glee

For the second time, Cheyenne Jackson has been cast in a key role on “Glee.” And he says he’s really looking forward to making his first appearance on the show.

This week Mr. Jackson, the Broadway star-turned-nearly-ubiquitous-television presence, closed a deal to play a recurring role on the second season of “Glee,” the hit Fox musical comedy that has drawn stage actors including Matthew Morrison, Lea Michele, Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel into its orbit.

In a telephone interview on Tuesday night, Mr. Jackson recalled how he, too, was supposed to be part of the freshman class of “Glee” — only to be felled by a horrible case of the flu.

He said he had finished the Broadway run of “Xanadu” and had not yet started on “Finian’s Rainbow” when he was approached by the “Glee” co-creator Ryan Murphy to play a part on the program’s first season. He was supposed to play Dakota Stanley, a crazed choreographer that the McKinley High School glee club tries to steal away from their rival squad, Vocal Adrenaline.

But right before Mr. Jackson was to begin filming he came down with a 103-degree fever and could not go to work, he said, and the role was recast with the actor Whit Hertford.

“I sat in my hotel room for two days in L.A.,” Mr. Jackson said, “just getting better and feeling sorry for myself and watching $22 movies in my room. It was terrible.”

In his new role on “Glee,” which he is to begin filming on Friday, Mr. Jackson is sworn to semisecrecy. “All I’m allowed to say is that I’m going to be the coach of Vocal Adrenaline,” he said.

Fans of the show will recall that position was held by Ms. Menzel’s character, Shelby Corcoran, who quit the job at the end of Season 1. Mr. Jackson said that Ms. Menzel would return for Season 2 but was not allowed to reveal anymore.

Asked how many episodes of “Glee” he would appear in, Mr. Jackson replied, “More than one, less than 22.”

He was able to confirm that he would also continue to appear on the NBC comedy “30 Rock” as the innocently Canadian sketch comedian Danny Baker.

But when asked about his work on the new season of “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” Mr. Jackson had to clam up again.

“All you have to do is Google it,” he said. “There were a hundred photographers that day with me and Wanda Sykes. I think it’s pretty obvious what we’re doing on there.”

Speaking more generally about the experience, in a way that hopefully won’t upset Larry David, Mr. Jackson said: “I didn’t realize that there literally was no script for ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm.’ Literally not one word written down.”

He added: “They say: ‘You’re playing this kind of character, here’s your name. You got it?” I said, ‘Are we going to rehearse?’ They said, “No, we shoot the rehearsal. And: action.’ But that’s the first rule of improv: You say yes. Especially to Wanda Sykes.”

Thanks NY Times.

Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane has revealed that he would like Woody Allen to lend his voice to the show.

However, MacFarlane – who also voices Peter Griffin, Stewie, Quagmire and other characters – admitted that the star is unlikely to make an appearance.

He told The Hollywood Reporter: “Woody Allen would be kind of cool, but I don’t think he’d ever do the show.”

The writer also confessed that he had been unable to secure actor William Shatner for a guest role.

“We’ve tried to get Shatner in the past and not had a whole lot of luck,” he said. “We’ve probably poked a little too much fun at him!”

However, MacFarlane explained that he is delighted with the high calibre of guest stars that the show has managed to attract.

“We’ve had so many people that we wanted to get,” he added. “That list of people we want but can’t get is dwindling!”

The ninth season of Family Guy will premiere on September 26 on Fox.

Thanks DS.

Fox News is certainly enjoying watching the rest of the media begin to pick up the DOJ Black Panther story. On The Factor tonight, Bill O’Reilly and Bernie Goldberg started discussing how the likes of Bob Scheiffer and Howard Kurtz could have missed and dismissed the story so thoroughly. The conversation quickly devolved into about five minutes of gloating from the nation’s top rated news network.

It started to go downhill as Goldberg began seemingly blaming most of society’s ills on that greatest of all evils, the New York Times. Then the self-congratulating began as the two men started pointing out just how dominant Fox had become:

O’Reilly: My contention, and I think your contention, is that we report the news better, better, certainly than CNN which is going right down the drain. And the Washington Post, which misses story after story after story, seemingly because of ideological reasons. You know, so I guess Kurtz is just not getting that.
Goldberg: I want to emphasize, he’s still better than the bozos that cover the media for lots of other papers. Having said that, we’re in a transition period. The old media isn’t totally dead yet but it’s dying. It really is dying and Howard still thinks, I guess, that the the Washington Post, the New York Times, the networks, that’s the mainstream and Fox is not the mainstream. Here’s the news, here’s the news. No, no, Fox has become the mainstream in America.
O’Reilly: Well, there’s a new sheriff in town and I’m going to have to arrest Howard Kurtz.

Wait, so Fox News is the mainstream? Does that mean no one on the channel (including Sarah Palin) can bad mouth the mainstream media anymore? Seriously though, you guys may have been right about covering the DOJ story when few else were, still doesn’t mean there’s any reason for a five minute back-patting session.

Thanks Mediaite.

With 2.4 million viewers, Daniel Tosh has taken the lead over Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert as Comedy Central’s top-rated show host.

Who’s that?

In its second season, Tosh’s show “Tosh.0″ follows a video clip format like E!‘s “Talk Soup.” Tosh takes viral videos, internet news, and original content — and gives them his own twist.

Last Wednesday, “Tosh.0″ had its best ratings yet, boosting Comedy Central ratings in that time period to their highest since “Chappelle’s Show” held the time slot in 2004.

Tosh’s summer season, which premiered June 2, has averaged 2.2 million viewers and a 1.5 rating among adults 18-49, a 24% increase from the show’s last season. In fact, five of the show’s six episodes have broken Tosh’s own previous ratings records. “Tosh.0″ is now the network’s #3-rated show, behind only “South Park” and “Futurama.”

“It’s a show that came in under the radar and it’s a truly word-of-mouth kind of show,” said Comedy Central’s Kent Alterman, head of the network’s original programming. “He hasn’t been written about that much. There’s really just one factor that stands out — the show is really funny.”

But Tosh isn’t the only funny one, and he knows it — part of his appeal seems to be his eagerness to engage with viewers (and sometimes teach them raunchy dance moves).

And Tosh’s unfolding success story has not gone unnoticed by the media. On Monday, Tosh was featured in posts on The Hollywood Reporter, Yahoo! TV, and Perez Hilton.

The attention has prompted a satirical post from “Tosh.0″ entitled “I Get It, We’re the Biggest Thing on Television, We Know, Alright Already.”

Thanks the Huffington Post.

VH1’s Celebrity Rehab is looking for star power—and they’ve got their sights set on Liza with a Z, according to gossip hounds TMZ. The site claims that while Minnelli has “no interest” in doing the show, which follows high profile (or formerly high-profile) substance abusers as they go through treatment, Celebrity Rehab is still in talks with the famous actress’ team. Negotiations are said to be in the “$500,000 universe” if Minnelli agrees to participate.

The Tony- and Oscar-winning actress famously signed in at the Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage, California, back in 1984, after pulling out of Broadway’s The Rink. She followed up with a stay at the Caron Center in 2003.

Without Minnelli, the show might not go on at all. According to TMZ, the fourth installment of the reality series, hosted by treating physician Dr. Drew Pinsky, needs an infusion of “celebrity” to get the green light from VH1. Current participants include MySpace starlet turned reality TV vixen Tila Tequila and former Laguna Beach burnout Jason Wahler. Previous patients treated on the show include actor Daniel Baldwin, porn star Mary Carey, model Brigitte Nielsen, civil rights figure Rodney King, actor Gary Busey, notorious madam Heidi Fleiss and basketball player Dennis Rodman.

Thanks Broadway.

With 13 Daytime Emmy nominations, the soap opera “As the World Turns” has the potential for a trophy-filled going-away party on an awards show being broadcast by the network that pulled the plug on it.

“General Hospital” led with 18 nominations Wednesday. “The Young and the Restless” had 16, “Sesame Street” had 14 and “One Life to Live” had 13. CBS will air the annual awards show from Las Vegas on June 27.

“As the World Turns” will air for the final time in September. It’s the second daytime drama CBS has canceled in two years, after “Guiding Light,” as the genre does a slow fade in popularity.

“As the World Turns” was not nominated for best daytime drama. Two of its actors—Jon Lindstrom and Michael Park—were among the five nominees for best lead actor in a soap. Maura West was nominated for best actress.

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences will give a lifetime achievement award to Agnes Nixon, a creative force behind many soap operas. One was “All My Children,” whose star Susan Lucci said Nixon helped create the very fabric of daytime TV.

Besides Lindstrom and Park, best actor nominees were: Peter Bergman and Doug Davidson of “The Young and the Restless,” and James Scott of “Days of Our Lives.”

Joining West as top actress nominees were Crystal Chappell of “Guiding Light,” Michelle Stafford of “The Young and the Restless,” Sarah Brown of “General Hospital” and Bobbie Eakes of “All My Children.”

The ladies of “The View” have a chance to repeat last year’s win as best talk show hosts. Their competition includes Rachael Ray, Bonnie Hunt, Dr. Mehmet Oz and the team of Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa.

PBS dominated the children’s categories. Eight of the 10 shows nominated in the categories of best children’s series, best children’s animated program and best preschool children’s series were on public broadcasting.

With shows such as Brothers & Sisters, Modern Family and the soon to be dearly missed Ugly Betty already part of its line-up, ABC has been the most gay-friendly network on television for quite some time. And that record of gay-inclusiveness is only set to increase if the network picks up the new comedy pilot It Takes a Village.

Written by Casey Johnson and David Windsor (Greek), ITAV stars Leah Remini (The King of Queens) and Christopher Sieber (It’s All Relative) as two exes trying to raise their 15-year-old son while also navigating their post-divorce romantic relationships. And in the case of Sieber’s character Howard, that relationship is with his new boyfriend Scott played by Cheyenne Jackson.

ABC has recently found a great deal of success with their return to the sitcom format including The Middle, Cougar Town, and, of course, Modern Family. So what might It Takes A Village look like? Would it be more like MF, a traditional family sitcom about untraditional families? Or might it be skew more toward NBC’s satirical comedies such as The Office or the off-the-wall 30 Rock?

Thanks Gayapolis.

Recent Oscar nominee Gabourey Sidibe and Ryan Phillippe will each host Saturday Night Live for the first time later this month, NBC announced Thursday.

Phillippe will make his hosting debut April 17 along with first-time musical performer Ke$ha. Phillippe will star in next month’s big-screen version of the SNL sketch “MacGruber” alongside Will Forte and Kristen Wiig.

The show will welcome Precious star Sidibe the following week, on April 24, along with musical guest MGMT.

Phillippe and Sidibe will follow former SNL star and head writer Tina Fey, who will return to host the series for the second time April 10.

Fey — who co-stars in the feature film Date Night with Steve Carell, due out April 9 — is also set to co-host the show’s Mother’s Day special with Betty White, Amy Poehler, Molly Shannon, Maya Rudolph, Ana Gasteyer and Rachel Dratch.

When discussing her forthcoming SNL hosting duties last month, Fey — the star and head writer of the Emmy-winning sitcom 30 Rock — said she would likely bring back her famous Sarah Palin impersonation, which snagged her an Emmy last year.

Teen sensation Justin Bieber will perform on the April 10 episode.

In less than a month, the reality of doomsday will come to life in a ground-breaking internet-based “reality show” that places a dozen people underground for an entire year to find out how humans would survive a catastrophic event. The Vault, launching April 2010, will be broadcast over the web and for a moderate price the world will have the opportunity to watch what happens.

Spawned by doomsday enthusiast and writer Russ McCullough, The Vault evolved out of Russ’s own fears about the end of the world. “I personally believe at least one of the predictions will happen,” says Russ. “But for me, the most important question is not, IF it will happen, but what you will DO if it happens?”

Created by a group of business-minded visionaries at Inlighten Film Productions, The Vault will film for an anticipated year, posting daily episode updates to the website. Located at an undisclosed location in the Central United States, The Vault will take place in an original fallout shelter built during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Outfitted with cameras at every angle and little more than the basic supplies they’ll need to survive, the cast will be tested in a variety of ways, primarily the isolation itself. There will be no access to LIVE media of any kind including television, radio, newspapers or current events. In addition, there will be no cell phones or communication with loved ones. The Vault will be virtually and literally sealed off from the entire world – we can see in, but they cannot see out.

Advising on the psychological implications of the premise and helping to select the personalities most apt to handle the stresses of the situation is Dr. Larry Grimm of the University of Illinois at Chicago.

“We anticipate these cast members will go through a full range of emotions from fear and panic to depression and stress,” remarks Dr. Grimm. “The societal norms that typically set the parameters of acceptable behavior will eventually weaken. A new micro-society will develop.”

To test this micro-society, there will be organized “interventions” that represent the challenges they would face if this were not a test. They will be asked to make difficult decisions, learn new skill sets, resolve conflicts and ultimately evolve. As in the real scenario, their performance will determine their fate.

The ultimate goal is to see exactly how a group of people would respond if the predictions about society’s end come true. It’s a group dynamic that has never been tried before, according to The Vault’s Executive Producer, John St. Anthony. “We’re in uncharted territory here. This is not ‘scripted reality.’ This is real. No one knows what will happen in The Vault but we believe it’s a critical question to answer and we know the world will want to watch.”

If Betty White’s “Saturday Night Live” hosting gig becomes a reality – the iconic comedienne might have some company.

While Betty is reportedly “this close” to her first hosting gig, she wouldn’t be taking the stage alone.

According to Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello, the folks at “SNL” are considering a “Women of Comedy” episode that could include the likes of Betty, along with “SNL” alums Molly Shannon, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, a grassroots Facebook fan campaign was launched earlier this month begging “SNL” brass to get the former “Golden Girl” on their stage.

The “Betty White To Host SNL (please?)!” fan page currently boasts over 427,000 supporters.

In an interview with Matt Donnelly of the LA Times, White said she’s ready to go “Live from New York” – it’s just up to the man who created “Saturday Night Live.”

“That would be up to Lorne Michaels,” she said at the time.

When contacted by Access Hollywood, a rep for Betty wasn’t immediately available for comment on the story.

Thanks Access Hollywood.

The gay rodeo champion who was evicted from the “Big Brother 10″ house has found a new use for his assless chaps — dude is officially entering the world of gay porn.

18 months after he was evicted from the “BB” house, Steven Daigle was so comfortable in front of the cameras, he decided to sign on to a man-on-man-on-man sex tape with a company called C1R.com. We’re told Daigle was approached with the idea by porn director Chi Chi LaRue – who originally met Daigle at a “Big Brother” wrap party. Daigle tells us, “I didn’t expect my life to take this path, but when I was presented with the opportunity, I dove in head first… literally.”As for the footage, we’re told most of the film is already in the can
