U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton might be drafted – ie volunteered against her will – to fight Barack Obama for the Democratic nomination for the November presidential election. ‘Not only is Mrs Clinton better positioned to win in 2012 than Mr Obama, but she is better positioned to govern if she does,’ say those planning the move, Democrat consultants Patrick Caddell and Douglas Schoen. Former New York Times editor Bill Keller floats another idea, that Hillary – now America’s most popular woman, according to Gallup – runs for the Vice Presidency, making Obama’s re-election as President a certainty and Mrs Clinton the presidential heir apparent in 2016.
