It sounds fishy but a New York City pet shop owner says it’s true. Buttkiss, the black pacu he owns, is 43 and weighs 20 pounds. A pacu is a breed that’s related to the piranha. Steve Gruebel owns Cameo Pet Shop in Queens. He got Buttkiss in 1967 when he was just a wee thing. He sold him a year later when Buttkiss was two inches long. But in 1970, Buttkiss was returned when he outgrew the buyer’s tank.

Buttkiss lives in only a four-foot-long, 75-gallon tank. Gruebel said he’s afraid to move him because he may not survive the changing environment.

Buttkiss is beginning to show his age. He has arthritic gills and glaucoma in his right eye.

Thanks My Way.

Thirty-five wild chickens were rounded up in a New York City neighborhood and taken to an upstate sanctuary, volunteers say.

The New York Daily News said Sunday some of the chickens were hiding under parked cars before they were picked up at the K&N Parking Lot.

Volunteers from the Farm Sanctuary, an animal-protection organization, used bird feed, crates and nets in rounding up the chickens.

“Volunteers were simply rounding up chickens that have been living on a city block in the Bronx to take them to a sanctuary in the country, said Meredith Turner, who works for the Farm Sactuary.

“It’s between serious strategy and luck,” volunteer Kim Korona said afterward.

The Daily News said the parking lot manager, Ramon Lopez, had been raising chickens for more than two decades but was forced to send the birds away because of a city fine and the increasing cost of housing the birds.

This sounds fair. Rap star Lil Wayne has gotten a temporary reprieve from jail—for dental surgery.

The Grammy Award-winning rapper’s sentencing in a New York City gun case was postponed Tuesday, because he needs to finish a string of recent surgeries before he goes to jail.

Lil Wayne, one of music’s biggest sellers and rap’s hottest stars, is poised to spend as much as a year in jail under a plea deal, though good behavior could shave that to as little as eight months.

Sentencing now is scheduled for March 2. Manhattan state Supreme Court Justice Charles Solomon said it wouldn’t be put off any further.

The diminutive, deadlocked rapper said nothing at a brief court session Tuesday afternoon. He left in a black SUV, flanked by fellow rapper Birdman and others.

His lawyer, Stacey Richman, said the rapper was headed home to Miami for dental work Friday. She declined to specify his malady.

“It is a medical situation that, like (it would for) any of us, has to be addressed,” she said outside court. She said the rapper had planned to take care of it before Tuesday, but his dentist had been out of the country doing charitable work.

Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Joan Illuzzi-Orbon didn’t fight the rapper’s request to push back his sentencing, saying she had spoken to the dentist.

Lil Wayne, 27, pleaded guilty in October to a charge of attempted criminal possession of a weapon, admitting he illegally had a loaded .40-caliber semiautomatic gun on his tour bus in July 2007. Police found the weapon when they stopped the bus after a Manhattan concert.

Last week, Lil Wayne reinforced his place in rap’s pantheon with a commanding performance at the Grammy Awards ceremony. His latest album, “Rebirth,” was released Feb. 2.

Meanwhile, he is preparing himself for jail, his lawyer said.

“He’s a strong man,” she said.

Thanks Breitbart.

A New York City teacher is accused of turning his fourth-grade classroom into a fighting ring.

Queens prosecutors say Joseph Gullotta told two of his students, ages 9 and 10, to settle an argument with a classroom fight.

One ended up with a cut lip, and the other with a bruised head.

Authorities say that when Gullotta finally sent the boys to the school nurse, he told them to lie and say they got hurt by bumping into each other.

He and a teacher’s aide who allegedly witnessed the incident are charged with acting in a manner injurious to a child.

Gullotta has been reassigned.

The name of his attorney was not immediately on record.

Thanks Az Central.

You’ll need to be 21 to take a bite out of this Thanksgiving turkey. New York City tavern owner Paul Hurley said he’ll unveil what he is calling the nation’s first 100-proof turkey on Monday. A spokesman for the owner of O’Casey’s Tavern in Midtown Manhattan said that the bird is infused with fruit-flavored and 100-proof Georgi vodka for three days before being cooked. The flavors of vodka include peach, raspberry, cherry and apple.

The gravy is also laced with the distilled liquor.

Out of concern for the danger of drinking-and-driving, the tavern is offering free taxi ride home to anyone who orders the turkey.

It wasn’t immediately clear how much it will cost to have some of the boozy bird.

Thanks My Way.

The Elton John AIDS Foundation honored former President Bill Clinton, Evelyn and Leonard Lauder, Sharon Stone, and Lily Safra with Enduring Vision awards this past Monday night. The event was held in New York City at Cipriani Wall Street.

Now in its eighth year, the Enduring Vision Awards acknowledges the efforts of those who contribute to promote awareness of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Journalist Anderson Cooper hosted the event. Donna Summer was the featured performer.

As Elton John told ET, “We live in a time where we mustn’t let AIDS get forgotten about…We have to carry on the fight and get as much done as we possibly can in our small way.”

To hear Elton John’s thoughts on the event from the red carpet, courtesy of ET Online, click here.

The Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) was established in the United States in 1992 by Sir Elton John. EJAF’s U.S. office is located in New York City. In 1993, Sir Elton also established the Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF-UK) in the United Kingdom, headquartered in London. These two organizations function as separate entities with their own distinct grant-making portfolios, but both pursue similar missions – to support innovative HIV prevention programs, efforts to eliminate stigma and discrimination associated with HIV/AIDS, and direct care and support services for people living with HIV/AIDS. Collectively, the two organizations have raised over $150 million since inception in support of projects in 55 countries around the world, including significant funding dedicated to programs in their respective home countries.

John has composed music for Broadway’s The Lion King in 1997, Aida in 1999 with lyricist Tim Rice (for which they received the Tony Award for Best Original Score and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album), Lestat: The Musical, and the Tony award winning Billy Elliot (which is currently on Broadway at the Imperial Theatre).

Thanks Broadway World.

YAY! Cat Survives 2 Mile NYC Ride in Engine

A cat who rode two miles through New York City while stuck in the engine compartment of an SUV has lived to meow about it. Wilfred Rodriguez heard rattling while he was driving Monday in the Bronx. After he parked, he spotted a bushy tail and a paw sticking out of the SUV’s front end.

His initial reaction: “Oh my God! I killed a cat.” He was relieved when the paw moved.

Detectives with the New York Police Department’s Emergency Service Unit freed the grease-covered kitty by removing the SUV’s battery and other vehicle parts.

Richard Gentles of New York City Animal Care & Control says the tan-and-white stray appears to be in good physical shape.

What a nice surprise. Hebrew University has received a surprise donation of more than $100,000 from an unexpected benefactor—a woman who survived the Nazi Holocaust and appeared to be homeless, a university official said Sunday. Upon her death two years ago, a homeless Holocaust survivor living on the streets of New York City willed the gift to the university. The Jewish woman lived out of a shopping cart in Manhattan and had no known relatives, said Yefet Ozery, Hebrew University’s director of development and public relations.

“She lived as a very poor woman. And when she died at the age of 92, it was discovered she had accumulated close to $300,000,” Ozery said.

The university first learned about the gift three months ago but did not receive the money until this week. It will be used to fund scholarships for medical research students, according to the woman’s wishes, Ozery said, refusing to disclose her name. The story was first reported by The Jerusalem Post daily.

Not much is known about the woman, who had no known connection to the university. She left the other half of her savings to various causes and beneficiaries, though Ozery said it is unknown how she amassed the small fortune.

“No one knows where she got it from. But she probably lived penny to penny. She probably saved it to do good for the world and for the Jewish people,” Ozery said.

The woman’s last known employer was a Jewish man in New York, who hired her to move his car to avoid parking tickets in exchange for a hot meal and a room, Ozery said. The woman also left that employer a portion of her savings.

Thanks Breitbart.

“The Big Gay Musical” — the new film written and produced by Fred M. Caruso — will make its theatrical debut Aug. 9 at The Art House in Provincetown, MA.

The film, which is described in press notes as “a hilarious story that mixes backstage drama, conservative religious families, coming out, coming to terms, and the occasional tap dancing angel,” will make its New York City premiere Sept. 11.

“The Big Gay Musical” features music by Rick Crom and a cast that boasts Liz McCartney, Jim Newman, Joey Dudding, Marty Thomas, Andre Ward, Daniel Robinson, Jeff Metzler, Brian Spitulnik, Josh Cruz, Celina Carvajal, Steve Hayes, Michael Musto and Brent Corrigan.

“Eddie and Paul have just begun previews for the new Off-Broadway musical Adam and Steve Just the Way God Made ‘Em,” according to press notes. “When life begins to imitate art. Eddie is dealing with how his sexuality and religious upbringing can mix and Paul is looking for the perfect man. Eddie comes out to his family and Paul goes on Manhunt. Eddie’s parents are destroyed by the news and Paul can’t even have a good one-night stand. But after musical numbers, a cameo by Rick Skye as Liza Minnelli, a retelling of Genesis, tele-evangelists, a camp that attempts to turn gay kids straight, and a bunch of showtunes, everyone realizes that life gets better once they accept who they really are. And they are just the way God made ‘em.”

The film is co-produced by Tom D’Angora and Michael Duling.
